Noordwijkse

The course at Noordwijkse, on the coast of Holland, is one of the three great links layouts in the country, the other two being Kennemer and the Haagsche. It has hosted the Dutch Open on a number of occasions. The original design at Noordwijkse was made by Frank Pennink in 1972. The dunescape is very dramatic but there are also some holes through dense pine forest a little further inland. Some relatively small-scale projects have been completed so far, such as the addition of some bunkers, the lengthening of the 14th and the strengthening of the 18th hole with a new back tee and the reshaping of the area to the right of the drive.

The next stages of the development are being considered to make even better use of the wonderful landscape over which the course plays and also to address the possibility of a green reconstruction programme to ensure that the Club is in the best position to present good playing surfaces as environmental restrictions on the use of chemicals tighten in this part of the world.

The likelihood of stringent restrictions on the use of pesticides in The Netherlands has led the Club to consider a full rebuild of its greens as well as making some layout adjustments to make the best use of the incredible links land the course occupies.

Prior to that, a new short game area has been built close to the clubhouse. The restrictions set by the authorities and the sensitivities of the sand dunes meant a tight working area had to be adhered to. Even so, the Club now has an excellent chipping green and a separate bunker practice green. The facility sits naturally into the surrounding landscape.
